Markdown formatting Help

This page provides a brief overview of some of the markdown formatting available for use in selected site content.

Paragraphs, Headings and Block Quotes

Paragraphs

To include a paragraph in your text simply enter one or more consecutive lines of text followed by a blank line.

Headings

To include a H1 or H2 heading simply include a line of equals (=) or hyphen (-) characters respectively under your heading text e.g.

Heading one =========

Heading two ------------------

Blockquotes

Block quotes may be added by simply add an angled bracket (>) to the beginning of each line of text you wish included e.g. > This is a block quote

Bold and Italics

To include some bold text or italic text simply put two (*) characters or one (*) character respectively on both side of the text e.g. **this is bold text** *this is italic text*.

Lists

Unordered list

To include an unordered lists or bulleted lists as they are otherwise known inluded the list values with a star (*) character before them e.g.

Ordered lists

To include ordered or numbered as they are are otherwise know include the list item's number followed by a period character (.) before it's value e.g.

  1. This is my first list value
  2. This is my second list value

Links

To add a link to a page into your text simply include the text you want to link from in square brackets ([]), with the URL that you wish to link the text to being included in round brackets after it e.g. [I want to link this text](http://www.asite.com).

Remember to include the "http://" at the beginning of the URL, if this is not included the link will be invalid. 

Images

To include images within your text simply include them using this format ![alternative text](/path/to/img.jpg).

The text between the square brackets ([]) at the beginning is the alternative text that gets shown if the images cannot be displayed, with the path to the image on the site being included within rounded brackets after it.

To add the main image of a piece of your work on the site, which is shown on the artwork details page, the path that will need to be included is /media/artwork/artwork-code-main.jpg. To add the thumbnail image for a piece of work, which is shown on search results pages, the path included will need to be /media/artwork/artwork-code-thumbnail.jpg.
