Dick Twinney
Born in 1943, Dick Twinney has loved the countryside and its inhabitants for as long as he can remember. Growing up in the South Devon seaside town of Teignmouth played a big part in his deep appreciation of the natural world. It is an area of outstanding wild beauty, a tidal river with a huge variety of wading and sea birds, fields and woodlands stretching to the moors and home to many popular mammals from tiny harvest mice to otters.
Having a natural ability to draw Dick was soon combining his two loves of art and natural history something he is still doing, but now for a living, with the same enthusiasm and passion to this day in Cornwall.
Dick Twinney is a completely self taught artist who has had the ability to draw and paint from an early age. He became a professional artist in 1973 specialising in wildlife and countryside subjects after serving 14 year in the Royal Air Force. Dick has written or contributed illustrations to over 25 books by some of the world's leading publishers including his own books 'The Painted Seasons' and 'From Hedgerow to High Tor', The Wildlife Diary of a Country Artist. . Over the years Dick's paintings have been used by most of the UKs greetings card and print publishers, including, Medici, Royles and J Arthur Dixon. His original paintings are spread worldwide. He is considered by many as one of the UK's foremost bird artists although by choice prefers to be known as a local artist restricting his shows and events to Cornwall. His main ambition in life is sharing his love and passion for Cornwall's natural world with others through his artwork and writing.
