Jennifer Johnson
I consider that I am very lucky to have been able to realise my ambition to be a recognised and successful artist.
In the 1970's, I moved from London to the South Hams to continue my work in the peace and beauty of the south Devon countryside.
I accept many commissions for portraits and my work has gained as great reputation for capturing the essence and likeness of the subjects from domestic animals to very small children. I love the challenge of capturing character and personality, and am fascinated by expression and mood.

I studied Graphic design and Illustration at Art School in Cumbria and Buckinghamshire. I worked as a designer and illustrator for many leading publishing houses, the BBC, Weidenfeld and Nicholson, Collins and Phaidon.
I continued with book illustration and portrait commissions as well as architectural studies for devolopers and estate agents.
I run courses and workshops independently in watercolour, landscape painting and drawing, portraiture, life drawing and flower painting, also demonstrations at local art societies. I tutor painting holidays in France.
I am currently 'Artist in Residence' at the Ways with Words litereature festival at Dartington in July.
I participate in 'Open Studio' events and my work is exhibited at local galleries.
